Diving under the Africa Mercy - World's largest non governmental hospital ship (vimeo.com)
This video is about Diving under the Africa Mercy, World's largest non governmental hospital ship.
As a marine engineer aboard this unique ship I have a chance to be in the technical diving team, that every second week dives under the ship to inspect the bottom and to remove for cleaning the intake grates for the cooling water.
Due to its operational profile, the Africa Mercy is tied up at a dock, usually in a developing country, for months at a time. That causes fouling and plugging of the cooling water for the generators and air conditioning.
The dive is not only interesting technically speaking, but also an amazing way to encounter the sea life in the harbor.
